The Fairmont Banff Springs or simply the Banff Springs Hotel is a former railway hotel constructed in Scottish Baronial style, located in Banff National Park, Alberta, Canada. The original hotel, designed by American architect Bruce Price, was built between spring of 1887 and 1888 by the Canadian Pacific Railway, at the instigation of its President, William Cornelius Van Horne. The hotel was publicly opened on June 1, 1888. Starting in 1911, a wholly new hotel was built in stages to replace the 1888 structure. The new hotel was designed by another American architect, Walter S. Painter. Compared with Price's Shingle style-influenced wooden structure,
Painter's new hotel was built of concrete and faced with stone.

Hotel Vancouver

This is the third hotel to be named 'Hotel Vancouver'. The first was a five-story, brick structure that looked and functioned much like a farmhouse.

The second, built from 1912-1916, and opened in 1916, became the meeting place for Vancouver society. The second Hotel Vancouver was turned into a government administration building during
World War II and torn down in 1949.

The present Hotel Vancouver took 11 years to build because construction was halted for five years during the Great Depression. It was started by the Canadian National Railway but was finally completed under a joint operating agreement with the Canadian Pacific Railway. It was opened in May of 1939, in time for the Royal visit of King George VI and Queen Elizabeth at a final cost of $12 million.

National Anzac Memorial, Brisbane

ANZAC Square, named in honor of the Australian and New Zealand Army Corps, is a Queensland state memorial to men and women who participated in overseas armed service.It is located between Ann Street and Adelaide Street (opposite Post Office Square), in Brisbane, Australia. ANZAC Square is adjacent to ANZAC Square Arcade. ANZAC Square contains the Shrine of Remembrance and the 'Eternal Flame of Remembrance' held in a continuously lit bronze urn, dedicated on Tuesday, 11 November 1930. There is also the World War II Shrine of Memories. Daphne Mayo sculptured the Women's War Memorial that forms part of the memorial's wall. The external wall of the Shrine of Memories is dedicated to the 60 000 Queenslanders who fought in World War I. There are also war-related statues, for various wars, including memorial statues for the Queensland soldiers who fought during the Second Boer War (1899–1902), as well as World War II, the Vietnam War and campaigns in Korea, Borneo and New Guinea.

Val D'or - The Ugly House

The original welsh name is "ty hyll"which literally means house ugly. During the 15th century the committee of nant Conway was reduced almost to a wilderness by bands of savage outlaws who ravaged the countryside far and wide. The whole area of snowdonia appears to have been wild and desolate and only coastal areas were more or less subdued.
According to legend, ty hyll was built in 1475 by two outlaw brothers wanting somewhere to house their bands of vagabonds and at the same time display their strength and prowess.
In olden times there was a means by which a man could obtain a dwelling and a small patch of freehold land. If smoke rose from the chimney of a rough house and constructed between sunset and sunrise without the knowledge of the land owner the builder could claim the land freehold. This was known as ty yn nos, (house of the night).
A secluded site would be chosen and all materials assembled and with the aid of friends and family work commenced. The chimney was built first of small stones, then the walls out of wattle and turf. At dawn additional land could be claimed by the new owner throwing axes to north, south, east and west. It is believed that this is how the ugly house was constructed by the brothers. The house has mention in many books poetry and paintings like this one..............
